Marlon G. Buño has been a practicing accountant since 1980, and is currently the Managing Partner of MGB Partners, LLP, an accounting and business consulting firm located in Torrance, California.
Mr. Buño’s practice is focused on accounting, financial reporting (annual and periodic), tax compliance and planning, and management consulting. In addition, his practice includes reviews, analysis and implementation of internal accounting controls, forecasting and projections, profit enhancement and cost containment, and financing strategies.
Mr. Buño’s in-depth experience in real estate includes accounting and tax services in developing, acquiring, financing, constructing, and disposing of every type of commercial and residential project. He has also been involved in advising and consulting with commercial leasing (retail, office, and industrial) and development. He has interacted with owners, operators, builders, property managers, investors and lenders.
He is familiar with tax laws governing foreign investors in real estate and has reviewed numerous landlord and tenant leases for retail, office, and industrial properties. He also has significant experience with hotels and REITs.
Mr. Buño’s experience in taxation both domestic and international includes assisting clients at all phases of federal, state and local tax matters in structuring transactions, compliance, and planning to minimize the risk of dispute with tax agencies. He has represented clients in tax controversy and successfully defended the clients’ position during an audit. Moreover, he has handled numerous administrative appeals in the Appeals Office of the Internal Revenue Service and the appellate level of state and local tax agencies and if the dispute is not settled, he has assisted several tax attorneys in litigation support before the United States Tax Court.
Mr. Buño has extensive experience in a variety of industries both public and privately held including, manufacturing, technology, educational, garment, real estate, food and beverage, health care (IPAs and MSOs), retail and wholesale, and professional firms.
Mr. Buño is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has served on its “Committee on Taxation,” the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and served on their “Real Estate Committee” and “International Tax Committee”. He is a member of the Philippine American Society of CPAs. His civic duties include being on the Board and served as its president of Special Service for Groups, a non-profit organization.
